Rack a brain, up your game!

Updated: Feb 23

We've Been Trying to Rack Our Brains Over Google’s RankBrain Algorithm… Here’s What We’ve Inferred!

If you’ve been obsessing over SEO (or just casually panicking about it), you may have heard whispers about RankBrain, Google’s AI-powered ranking system. And like any good mystery, it has left marketers scratching their heads.

So, we decided to rack our brains (pun intended) and break it down. Here’s what we’ve inferred—and more importantly, how you can tweak your content strategy to play nice with this ever-evolving beast.

What Is RankBrain?

Google's RankBrain is believed to refine search rankings by evaluating content relevance, intent matching, and user engagement patterns at scale. It goes beyond just keywords and backlinks—meaning the old SEO tricks won’t cut it anymore.

Which then implies…

  • Your content strategy has to now shift to search intent rather than just focusing on keywords.I hope you’re optimizing for AI but writing primarily for humans.

  • E(expertise) - A(authority) - T (trustworthiness) is still the Holy Grail. Highlight author credibility, mention sources, add well researched content, you’ll enter Rankbrain’s good books.

  • User metrics still matter, so if people bounce from your page faster than a bad first date, that’s a red flag. Improve dwell time by making your content engaging—use multimedia, internal links, and strong CTAs to keep users hooked.

  • Technical SEO still needs your attention. Fast loading pages, mobile friendly designs and structured data, go a long way.

Why I like this shift:

Google is aligning technology to more of what users want, and that’s always something that I firmly believe, is the whole role and soul of technology.
